Everyone here in south Louisiana is keeping a close eye on the storm Gustav as it approaches the Gulf. People are glued to TV & radio stations broadcasting up-to-the-minute weather reports, while Wal-Mart parking lots are jammed with those seeking hurricane supplies. Most meteorologists predict the storm to hit the Louisiana coastline by Tuesday morning.
On the 3 year anniversary of hurricane Katrina, many remember the nightmare that created for our state. People’s lives were changed forever. I woke up this morning with a thought from God’s Word, reminding me of our POSITION, our PURPOSE, & our PROMISE as a church. 2 Timothy 1:7 says, “God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind.”
This is not a time for us to panic but a time for us to prepare. At HPC, we are already gathering volunteers and making contacts with other churches & organizations to mobilize help wherever needed. God was faithful to us during Katrina-He brought churches together from all different backgrounds. We laid down our logos and egos to become the army of compassion God originally intended. Behind every great tragedy is an even greater opportunity. Whatever the outcome, I know God can use it for our good and His glory.

As I pulled onto the property today this was the site that I saw. I had immediate flash backs to Katrina when we load and unload trailers of this size for weeks receiving and sending out relief to affected areas. This morning, I took a deep breath and said, “Lord, we are ready, use us!”
